Built to last.
Cared for, longer.
Every piece leaves the studio ready for decades of use. What follows is how to make sure it gets there.
By material.
01 · Lacquered wood
Wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid synthetic dusters that trap abrasive particles; they leave fine scratches in a gloss surface.
A slightly damp cloth followed immediately by a dry one. No wax, oil, or polish: a lacquered surface needs nothing added to it, and most products dull the gloss.
Blot immediately with a clean cloth; do not wipe, which spreads the liquid. Dry the area fully afterwards.
Prolonged direct sun will shift the tone of the lacquer over time. Position pieces away from south-facing windows where possible.
Avoid placing hot objects directly on the surface. Use a mat or trivet. Sustained humidity above 70% can cause movement in the timber beneath.
02 · Solid wood
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth along the grain. Avoid synthetic dusters that trap abrasive particles.
Blot immediately with a clean cloth; do not wipe, which spreads the liquid. Dry the area fully afterwards.
For oiled or waxed finishes only: apply a thin coat of beeswax or a natural oil once or twice a year, depending on climate. Buff to a low sheen.
Prolonged direct sun will shift the tone of the wood over time. This is natural; position pieces away from south-facing windows where possible.
Avoid placing hot objects directly on the surface. Use a mat or trivet. Sustained humidity above 70% can cause movement in the timber.
03 · Upholstery & fabric
Brush loose dust and debris away with a soft clothes brush. Plump cushions and turn reversible pads regularly.
Blot with a clean white cloth and cold water. For stubborn marks, use a small amount of pH-neutral soap and work from the outside in. Always test on a hidden area first.
We recommend professional upholstery cleaning every two to three years, or after any significant staining. Avoid steam-cleaning bouclé or loosely woven textiles.
Fabric dyes will shift in sustained direct light. Rotate pieces seasonally if near windows.
04 · Stone & marble
Each stone surface leaves the studio sealed. Reseal every twelve to eighteen months using a penetrating stone sealer appropriate to the stone type.
Wipe with a damp cloth and a small amount of pH-neutral stone cleaner. Never use vinegar, lemon, or any acidic cleaner: stone is susceptible to etching.
Blot immediately. Even sealed stone can absorb oils and wine given time. Ring marks from glasses should be treated quickly.
Stone conducts and holds heat unevenly. Always use a trivet or mat. Thermal shock from sudden temperature change can crack some stone types.
05 · Metal frames & hardware
Wipe with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not use abrasive pads, bleach, or commercial metal cleaners unless specifically recommended for the finish.
Unlacquered metal will develop a patina over time. This is intentional. If you prefer to slow the process, wipe down occasionally with a very small amount of mineral oil.
Surface oxidation on steel is cosmetic. A light application of paste wax will prevent further development. Contact us before attempting any restoration.
"The pieces we make are not fragile. They are built the way a house is built: to hold weight, take use, and settle into themselves over years. They only ask to be noticed."
What we stand behind.
All warranty periods run from the date of delivery to the original purchaser and apply to residential use only unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Frames, joints, and load-bearing elements against defects in materials or workmanship under normal residential use.
Seams, stitching, and foam density. Covers natural wear, fading, and pilling arising from manufacturing defect, not from use.
Against cracking or delamination from the base. Does not cover etching, staining, or chipping from impact.
Against structural failure. Surface finish changes (patina, oxidation) are not covered; they are a feature of the material.
Against cracking or delamination of the hide. Natural grain variation, pull marks, and colour change from use are not defects.
What is not covered
- Normal wear and variation (grain shift, patina, fabric softening) are part of how these pieces age.
- Damage from misuse, improper cleaning products, or failure to follow care instructions.
- Damage from commercial or hospitality use unless a commercial warranty was agreed at the time of order.
- Pieces modified or repaired by parties other than Studio Curio.
- Acts of nature: flooding, fire, sustained water damage.
